New headteacher for Ysgol Dyffryn Aman

A new headteacher for Ysgol Dyffryn Aman will take up her post at the beginning of the summer term.

Nerys Nicholas has been appointed the new head of the 1,600 pupil school following the retirement of Steven Perks.

Mrs Nicholas, who is currently Headteacher at Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard, was recently appointed by the governing body of Ysgol Dyffryn Aman.

Chair Graham Griffiths said: “On behalf of the Governing Body I would like to thank Mr Steven Perks for his total commitment over the last 10 Years as an outstanding headteacher of Ysgol Dyffryn Aman.

“During this time he has ensured that the major redevelopment of the school buildings has been completed with as little disruption to teaching and learning as possible.

“Over the last three years the school results have improved significantly and Mr Perks retires, leaving the school in a good position to continue to improve.”

Mr Griffiths added that the governing body was very pleased to appoint Mrs Nicholas to succeed Mr Perks.

“We look forward to supporting her in continuing to improve standards and the Welsh curriculum at the school.  Mrs Nicholas will take up her new post at the start of the summer term,” he said.

Carmarthenshire’s executive board member for education Cllr Gareth Jones said he looked forward to welcoming Mrs Nicholas to Carmarthenshire.

“Mrs Nicholas is an experienced headteacher and I am sure her knowledge, skills and guidance will take Ysgol Dyffryn Aman forward as the school continues its journey towards excellence.”
