Eight primary schools in Carmarthenshire will be trading against each other for this year’s Carmarthenshire Young Traders titles.
Hafodwenog, Llangadog, Llandeilo, Llangynnor, Old Road, Ysgol y Felin, Bynea and Penrhos schools will compete for the area titles which involves setting up a business and turning it into a profitable enterprise.
The annual competition is run by Carmarthenshire Markets.
Each school receives £100 sponsorship to spend on their business idea with up to five Yr 6 pupils per team taking part in the challenge.
The teams must plan, purchase material/products, brand it and run it themselves on a stall in the outside market for a day.
Four schools will trade against each other in pitches in Carmarthen Outdoor Market on Wednesday, June 28 and four in Llanelli Outdoor Market on Thursday, July 6 from 10am-2pm. The winning team from each area will be the school which has made the most profit at the end of the day and any money made goes towards their school.
The aim of the competition is for pupils to experience setting up their own business and taking part in a trade-off.
Over the course of the challenge, pupils can improve their employability skills, gain a greater understanding of the world of work and make a positive contribution to the community they live in.
