Carmarthenshire County Council and Carmarthen Town Council officers have been
working together with schools and local businesses to let people know that
residents have had enough of dog fouling on Carmarthen’s streets.
A Day of Action took place on Wednesday, April 25, which commenced with pupils
and staff from Ysgol Y Dderwen, Myrddin and Richmond Park schools joining
Environment Department staff in raising awareness of the problems of dog fouling in
the town centre.
Pupils and officers spoke to shoppers and discussed the hazards of dog fouling on
the streets of Carmarthen and dog owners were given free dog waste bags and
information leaflets and were encouraged to do the right thing and collect their dog
waste.
St Mary’s, Abergwili and Model schools also took part in the Day of Action,
at their schools, by giving dog waste bags and providing information to families and
friends of the school as well as local residents. Schools also raised awareness
through social media.
The pupils were also joined by county councillors, town councillors and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Carmarthen.
Local businesses were also asked to get involved through social media, by
raising awareness of the issues they face, sometimes daily, with dog owners
not collecting their dogs waste from the pavements fronting their shops.
